Where we are going
KAKSLAUTTANEN ARCTIC RESORT
Kakslauttanen is a family hotel in Finnish Lapland 250 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. Although in the middle of nowhere it is very easy to get to being only 30 minutes from Ivalo Airport.
Surrounded by nature and in the wilderness, this unique property is located in the Saariselkä Fell region of Finnish Lapland and offers glass igloos, traditional wood chalets and has the world’s largest smoke sauna.
Situated in Sodankyla, this lodge is 2.8 mi (4.6 km) from Urho Kekkonen National Park and within 9 miles (15 km) of Ruijanpolku and Angry Birds Activity Park Saariselka. Saariselka Ski Resort and Saariselkä Sport Resort are also within 9 miles (15 km)
Home to the original glass igloo: a special design of thermal glass to view the Northern Lights from the comfort of a bed without the chill of the cold Finish air.
Luxury log cabins include a glass igloo bedroom and offers the best of both combining space and comfort with the perfect opportunity to see the starry sky and the amazing lights of the Aurora Borealis.
The luxury Kelo glass log cabin chalets feature a private sauna and log fire, as well as a beautiful igloo structure with twin beds where you can spend time star gazing – and maybe see the Northern Lights!
The resort offers 2 à la carte restaurants, which serve Laplandic specialities such as reindeer and char-grilled salmon. We would offer meals in different locations to ensure a variety of experience, with the group being together except for breakfast which is at leisure.
The hotel’s smoke sauna even has its own restaurant, Savusauna. A nearby ice hole is ideal for cooling off.
There are numerous wonderful excursions and trips available to choose from, and these would be offered during the periods of free time during the programme to ensure that we balance group activity and time with partners
DAY ONE:
Arrivals and Welcome
THROUGHOUT DAY
Individual arrival into Ivalo Airport (via Helsinki, Finland)
Bus transfer to Kakslauttenan Resort – approximate journey time of 30 minutes
Keys issued during coach transfer so that guests can transfer directly to their Kelo Glass igloos to freshen up
FROM 3pm
Check into private Kelo Glass Igloo
6pm
Meet for a Welcome Drink in Glass Igloo Bar in main building (a walk from rooms)
7pm
Guides will escort MAVENCLUB members to board a unique form of transport to a private dinner in the Korsu Restaurant – they will travel by reindeer sleigh!
7.30pm
Welcome entertainment – Sami drummers to play guests into the space with a local flavour – guests are served a welcome drink
7.45pm
Welcome dinner (informal, shared plates, get to know you time!)
9.45pm
Shuttle buses return guests to Glass Igloo Bar for nightcap or to individual log cabins

DAY TWO:

Merck colleagues and their partners will be escorted to the Glass Igloo Tower Bar
10:30am
Partners will have the opportunity to browse the art gallery and designer shops, whilst
Merck colleagues attend a meeting with Dimitri, Christos and other winners in the Tower Bar
12:00pm
Merck colleagues can then meet their partners and have the opportunity to watch a wonderful movie of the Northern Lights spectacle in Scandinavia’s largest planetarium
12:30pm
Lunch is served in the Planetarium Restaurant
14:00pm
Time leisure for members to enjoy the facilities of the resort, including husky safaris, cross-country skiing, ice fishing, sauna/ice bath, horseback riding etc. - guests share their preference pre event (note all activity options are shown later in the deck)
19:00pm
Depart on foot for Celebration House for the Celebration Dinner.
19:30pm
Celebration Dinner. Hong and Andrew to join to provide HEC perspective/presence.
The space features a screen where we can celebrate achievements for all our winners, led by Christos & Dimitri.
A pianist will accompany our guests as they eat dinner.
22:00pm
After dinner, a night cap can be taken in the Glass Igloo Bar for a possible Northern Lights sighting
